Books
Here’s some books I listened to. I annotated the kind of audience I would recommend each book to, and wrote some notes for some books.
Crime and Punishment
One of Dostoevsky’s greatest novels. It’s long, and the pace decreases before the last third of the book, but it’s absolutely worth it. Listening is probably preferable to reading in this case.
Highly recommended for: deep thinkers, devout atheists, and seekers of the classics
Man’s Search for Meaning
A book in two parts. The first is an account of Viktor Frankl’s life in concentration camps during WW2. The second half describes logotherapy, a meaning-focussed approach to psychotherapy.
Recommended for: people with an interest in meaning, psychology, and life in extreme situations
Projections: A Story of Human Emotions
A deep dive into modern psychiatry and optogenetics. Karl Deisseroth tells us his personal history, presents his love and talent for beautiful writing, and reads the audiobook himself.
Highly recommended for: anyone with an interest in psychiatry and neurology
Spiritual Enlightenment: The Damnedest Thing
Excellent both in information and humor; the book that ended my spiritual journey.
Must-read for: Seekers of Mindfulness; Meditators
Greater Than the Sum of Our Parts
A nice introduction into Internal Family System therapy by the guy who made it a thing.
Recommended for: soul-searchers, victims of trauma
